Looking for the perfect moment to capture photos of your newborn baby but not sure when to book an appointment and what to expect? Look no further!
When is the best time to book?
The best time to capture newborn photos is within 5–14 days of birth. The reason being, after 2 weeks many babies become more alert and may be less comfortable staying swaddled for extended periods. That’s why we recommend scheduling your newborn session within 5–14 days after birth whenever possible.
Every baby develops at their own pace. Some may arrive early or need extra time to recover from jaundice or other conditions. In these cases, the ideal timing for a photoshoot will depend on your baby’s comfort and readiness. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Try to schedule your session when your baby is usually calm, well-rested, and fed — this helps the shoot go smoothly. The general guideline is to feed 20-30 minutes before the session. That said, we understand every baby is different, so we’re flexible and do allow some time for breaks and feeding if needed.
We understand that the postpartum period can be delicate for mums. Our goal is to make your visit as smooth and comfortable as possible, so you can relax and enjoy the experience — and leave with beautiful, lasting memories of your baby’s very first milestone.
What to expect ?
Firstly, infants sleep A LOT, It's always better to capture those adorable, peaceful sleepy newborn poses than those enraged, red-faced from crying. Hence, booking a timing when he/she is the most peaceful is encourages to have a smooth session.

If sleeping, how will my baby smile?
Newborns don’t smile socially yet — their brains, vision, and nervous systems are still developing, so they can’t consciously express happiness.
Some babies may show reflex or “gas” smiles, but it varies from child to child. We’ll gently try to trigger these little smiles during the session, but it isn’t guaranteed — and that’s completely normal!
Not to worry — every tiny expression is precious and worth capturing.
What will my baby wear?
For newborn sessions, we usually recommend swaddling, which helps babies feel secure and calm during the shoot. Under the swaddle, babies typically wear a little shorts to cover their diapers. At BabyU, all props and attires are available.
We also welcome parents to bring their own outfits if you have something special in mind. Do note that newborn babies are still developing strength, so their poses are usually limited to lying down or gentle tummy positions. Because of this, full outfits may not always be fully visible in photos. Athough poses are limited, do be rest assured that our photographer will capture your baby from multiple angles, always keeping them safe and comfortable throughout the session.

What should i prepare for the shoot?
To help the session go smoothly, please prepare:
Baby’s milk bottle
A burp cloth or small handkerchief
Pacifier (if your baby uses one)
Newborns feed frequently, so having milk ready helps keep them calm and comfortable during the shoot. With a bottle prepared, our assistants can feed your baby promptly if needed, allowing our photographer to continue capturing those precious moments.
For breastfed babies, you may wish to bring a nursing cover. We also have a separate space available if you prefer more privacy during feeding. How to book a slot?
