The 1-year milestone is one of the most significant celebrations in a family’s life — and it’s no wonder it’s the most popular session at our studio. At this age, your baby is often standing, taking their first steps, or even breaking into little dances. These precious moments make for the most adorable photos.

At BabyU Studio, we offer a variety of themes, poses and also outfits designed especially for 1-year-olds. From playful setups to sweet, candid shots, we make sure every session is fun, safe, and full of memories you’ll treasure forever.

Besides capturing their developmental milestones, like standing and dancing, we also have specially curated 1 year old themes like Cakesmash and Doljainchi available at our studio!

Cake Smash: A Cake Smash photoshoot is a special session usually done to celebrate your baby’s 1st birthday milestone. It’s a fun and memorable experience where your little one is given a cake to explore, touch, and smash while we capture their natural reactions.

Some babies gently poke the cake, some happily dig in, and others create the most adorable messy moments — these genuine expressions make the photos truly unique and full of personality.

At BabyU Studio, we usually begin with a few clean portraits of your baby, before introducing the cake for the smash session. This allows us to capture both timeless portraits and playful moments in one experience.

It’s a joyful way to celebrate your baby’s first year and create beautiful memories for the family to look back on. Attire: We recommend muted, colorful clothing or neutral, pastel tones are great too! What to prepare? Kindly prepare the cake and outfit for this concept, if possible, do match baby's outfit color with the cake. Quick tip: Before your session, we recommend letting your baby try a little cake at home so they can become familiar with this new treat. This small introduction often helps them feel more comfortable and enjoy the cake smash experience during the shoot at our studio. 🎂✨ Doljianchi: Doljianchi (돌잔치) is a traditional Korean ceremony celebrating a baby's first birthday, marking a major milestone historically significant for child survival. Similar to the chinese Zhuazhou (抓周), the celebration features a dolsang (table of food/items) and a doljabi ceremony, where the child picks objects like money, a brush, or thread to predict their future fortune, career, and longevity.

Attire:The baby traditionally wears a hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) and a special hat, such as a jobawi or gulle for girls, and a bokgeon or hogeon for boys. For our studio, all of these will be provided. Doljabi (Fortune Telling): The highlight of the event is where the baby chooses items from a table to predict their future:

• Money/Cash: Wealthy life.

• Brush/Book/Pencil: Intellectual or scholar.

• Thread/Yarn: Longevity (long life).

• Stethoscope: Doctor/medical career

• Gavel: Lawyer/Judge

• Rice/Food: Abundance, will not go hungry.
  

Doljianchi (돌잔치) at BabyU Studio is a special way to capture this major milestone for your little one, it combines traditional elements with a modern flair of neutral, muted tones to celebrate this joyous occasion for your child. Capturing timeless memeories for you and your family to look back on. For this special 1-year milestone, we recommend planning your session when your little one is around 10–11 months old. At this stage, they’re often full of smiles, curiosity, and still easy to engage within our setups. Once they turn one, many babies start exploring on their feet, which can make it a little trickier to keep them within the chosen concept.

Coming in slightly earlier also means your photos will be ready just in time to be beautifully displayed and shared during their first birthday celebration — making the moment even more meaningful ✨ Whichever concept your family decide to go for, our team will guide you at every step of the way to ensure a comfortable and smooth session at our studio.
